Discovering Montego Bay Jamaica

Montego Bay Jamaica is a popular tourist destination in the Caribbean. It is the second city established in Jamaica after the country's capital, Kingston. Despite this fact, Montego Bay or MoBay for short is recognized as the tourism capital of the country. As a result, the city houses Jamaica's largest international airport, the Sir Donald Sangster International Airport. The Parish of St. James is another familiar landmark in Montego Bay Jamaica since it is the birthplace of Samuel Sharpe, one of the country's national heroes.

Christopher Columbus is recorded as the first European visitor to Montego Bay Jamaica in May 1494. At that time, Columbus named the Bay "El Golfo de Buen Tiempo" which stands for The Gulf of Good Weather, Fair Weather Gulf or simply Bay of Good Weather in the English language. But the name Montego Bay originated from Bahia de Mantega, a title given by the Spanish after the Bay became an exporter of pigs' lard.

One of the most popular destinations in Montego Bay Jamaica is the Doctor's Cave Beach Club. It is an ideal location for novice swimmers since the club is known for its calm waters. The coral reefs of the Doctor's Cave Beach Club are well known for housing many species which is best viewed by renting a boat to go snorkeling.

Many resorts and hotels are located in Montego Bay Jamaica which is why it is wise to explore all of your options before making a final decision.
